Why do I get fly-aways when I go to straighten my hair?

I never had this problem before, but now whenever my straightener touches my hair, fly-aways just start going everywhere. What can I do to stop it?

This is common. I am a hairdresser. What you could do is use a couple of products to stop the fly away madness, here are a few that I like.

Redken~ Heat Seal you put this on after your hair is dry but before you flatiron.

BedHead~ Afterparty you put this on when you are all done blowdrying and flatironing.

Paul Mitchell~ Gloss Drops you put this on when you are done blowdrying and flatironing.

I hope this helps you.

It's static!!!! Try a little bit of water or wax!!!

My hair does that, too. Not neccesarily static--it's like hairs that are shorter floating around ( with my hair anyway). I Noticed Jennifer Aniston's hair doing that if you look close on certain shots on Friends. So apparently even top hairstylists have problems with that. When I'm done straightening, I'll lightly spray my hair with Vita E hairspray and comb it through, seems to help some.
