My daughter has very frizzy, dry ethnic hair and is allergic to chemical straighteners, how can we s

We have had her hair straightened 4 times, she is 15 years old, and every time she gets sores on her head and cannot leave the chemicals on more than 2 minuttes.

A hairdresser we went to feels that she is allergic to the chemicals.

We also ordered a non-chemical straightener off the internet, which did nothing for her hair. We are trying to find a way to straighten, besides a straightening iron or blow drying (that only last for a couple of days).

We would love some input or suggestions on what we can do.

Thank you.

You could try a straightening iron + gel, but that would not last long either.

There's a lot of straighten creams out there that you put in your hair and use a flat iron with to help make hair go straight easier and lasts longer. I'm pretty sure there's ones specfically made for ethnic hair too. Ask her hair dresser and see if there is anything else she can do

You could go to a salon that specializes in ethnic hair, or has a stylist or more that do, and ask to have it pressed. It is different than your standard ironing, and should last a little while. Here's a link I found that may help you understand more. I have not taken any classes in this area, so I am not able to give you more personally. Read the whole article, the part about pressing is about two sections down the page and starts out about hot combing.

It could be the brand of Relaxer or it could be that they are not using the Mild formula as they should be, AND basing her scalp with a protectant to prevent such damage to her scalp. Some people are more sensitive than others, and the maunfacterers know this, therefore they make products specifically designed for that. If she is Allergic, there is nothing more you can do besides take her to get her hair done, straightened or braided.

hmm, i don't think there is any other way to straighten hair. unless you do some extreme brushing.

personally i love the look of ethnic hair, you should tech your daughter to embrace her ethnicity, and not that her hair has to 'conked'

Use John Freda鈩? E-Z frizz control and get the hair serum and after you take a shower put that in while your hair is still wet and then also use the wind down solution.... this comes in steps 1-5 and the good thing is you don't have to go to a high price store to find it. You can buy it right at wal*mart庐 also dry you hair with all of this in your hair it will help...good luck!

The main problem is in the scalp, ethnic hair requires tons of moisturizing. My suggestion would be to go to Sally Beauty Supply they are great at product suggestion(without spending tons of money) get the hair an scalp healthy, and then try a non chemical relaxer.

John Frieda Wind-Down Relaxing Creme works great use it with the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum Original Formula. It works wonders and best of all you can let her hair air dry instead of blowdrying so her hair get a rest.

My suggestion is that you rethink what exactly you want to accomplish with your daughter's hair. I would avoid the chemicals completely, and instead of trying to straighten her hair, focus on moisturizing her hair. If you use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner it will help to make her hair much more manageable. Products for black hair, such as Northwest Scents, help to bring out the naturally curly texture that is already there. Wash and condition with moisturizing products, and then gently comb and style her hair while it is still damp. Try braiding it in an elegant style such as one long braid. If you don't know how to braid, go to someone who does. Just make sure that the braids are not too tight, otherwise they will pull out her hair. Save the heat straightening for special occasions, and when you do straighten her hair do it after her hair has been freshly washed and conditioned with moisturizing products.
